Social Justice

I am still really torn about the issues of social justice. It is not that I don’t feel that things need to change, it just seems that the way we are going about them might be wrong (incomplete).

Take Make Poverty History, for example. In order to actually make poverty history, there needs to be no poor people left. This leaves us with no rich people by means of comparison. I don’t see that happening. I see the rich throwing some money towards the poor and the poor being a little less poor and rich being a little less rich and feeling much better about themselves. And of course, they’ll rally their friends to the cause, but only to the same extent.

Anyways… still struggling with all that, but I cam across this great article the other day and it has been stewing in my mind. Still not done processing it, but thought I would share it.

What Reversal? (Confronting Myths of "Equality")

This is probably a meaningful article to read as well. I’m still processing so no promise it’s true, but it is logical.

Social Justice is something that ways heavily on my mind. I know what you are saying and the article that you linked to, too. I think about it like this: Jesus commands us to take care of the widows and orphans, those that are hungry, thirsty, naked and jailed because when we do we do it to Him so what are we to do nothing because they systems doing are flawed or the church do we stop serving the church God has sent us to because of the flaws we see and sometimes have no control over? No we serve and try to change the people from the inside out and the same with social justice we work through it and will there ever be no poor people probably not but that doesn’t hinder the work. I saw in Haiti that it was easier to get the people to start to open up to the Gospel when we helped their physical needs.
